football The Uruguayan midfielder, Juan Ferreira, will have further talks today about a £250,000 move to Dundee United. United have collected over £100,000 towards a possible deal by selling their goalkeeper Alan Main to St Johnstone.

The protracted takeover of Cardiff City by the West Midlands-based businessman, Jim Cadman, and his consortium has been delayed yet again. Rick Wright, who stills holds a controlling interest in the Second Division club and retains a seat on the board, has extended his deadline until 16 January.

The Grimsby chairman, Peter Furneaux, has resigned after seven years at Blundell Park. Following the recent appointment of Brian Laws as manager, Furneaux said it was a good time to step down. The vice-chairman, Bill Carr, takes over from Furneaux, who will remain on the board of the First Division club.

Peter Ndlovu, the Coventry City striker, will see a specialist today about his injured right knee. The 21-year-old Zimbabwean international has been under intensive treatment since damaging knee ligaments at Sheffield Wednesday on 28

December.

Three more players have been arrested in Malaysia as the scandal involving bribery and match-fixing grows. Since August, 55 arrests have been made.
