England 8 Turkey 0 match report: Toni Duggan fires treble as England rout Turks in World Cup qualifier
England made it two wins and 14 goals from their opening two World Cup qualifiers as they cruised to an emphatic win at Fratton Park.
Brent Hills's side had beaten Belarus 6-0 on Saturday and the caretaker manager enhanced his case for becoming Hope Powell's permanent successor with another rout. Toni Duggan bagged a hat-trick – with two in the first two minutes – while Ellen White and Eniola Aluko both scored twice, with Natasha Dowie completing the scoring against the Turks.
There was a minute on the clock when White fed Alex Scott down the right and the full-back supplied a low cross for the unmarked Duggan to tap home. Less than a minute later, Duggan fired home a half-volley for the second and it was 3-0 just before the half-hour as Fara Williams fed White, who finished coolly after rounding the goalkeeper Fatma Sahin.
Three minutes later, England had another when Karen Carney found Duggan, whose low cross from the left was finished by Aluko. Duggan then outpaced both Turkish central defenders and produced a low finish to complete her hat-trick.
The sixth England goal came seven minutes before the break. White took her second of the night beautifully, getting on the end of a Carney cross with a diving header.
The second half was just three minutes old when England netted another when White's cross was headed home by Aluko.
Jordan Nobbs and Jill Scott combined to release Natasha Dowie, who slotted home the eighth goal.
