Anthony Joshua reacts to shocking Andy Ruiz defeat

Deontay Wilder has blasted Anthony Joshua after the former unified heavyweight champion suffered the first defeat of his career at the hands of Andy Ruiz Jr.

Joshua started the fight slowly and sat behind his jab for the first two rounds but was forced to engage in a chaotic third, knocking Ruiz down but the American-Mexican was able to quickly respond with his own flurry of punches, knocking Joshua to the canvas twice.

Despite recovering to make it through rounds four, five and six with both men seemingly taking a breather to recuperate, the seventh was one that will never be forgotten.

Ruiz was able to land heavily on Joshua and sent the former unified heavyweight champion to the canvas, before sending him back down on his back for a fourth time.

Despite Joshua beating the count once again, he was unable to convince referee Mike Griffin he was fit to continue and the bout was waved off.

Wilder was quick to take to social media after Joshua’s humiliation, and didn’t hold back.

“He wasn’t a true champion,” Wilder said before unleashing a shocking tirade.

“His whole career was consisted of lies, contradictions and gifts.

“Facts and now we know who was running from who!!!!! #TilThisDay”

A fight between Wilder and Joshua now looks unlikely for the short term future, with the WBC champion set to face Luis Ortiz before a likely bout against Tyson Fury.
