An online advert for a £1.2million home in Stoke Newington has become the subject of a furore amongst Mumsnet users for its unkempt appearance.

The three-bedroom property was spotted on Zoopla and subsequently posted on the parenting forum with the message: “For £1.25m you’d think they’d have made it tidy!”

While a photograph of the exterior makes the Victorian home appear rather charming, inside pictures of the bathroom and the corridors paint a less idealistic picture, with laundry scattered everywhere - even the toilet seat has been left up in one of the snaps.

“God!! I would be mortified if pictures of my home in that state were posted on a property website,” one user wrote.

“Gosh!! It's that really how much people would pay for that house?! Is it made of gold?? [sic]” another joked.

Others pointed out that without the additional clutter, the home would probably look far more spacious.

“Some of those rooms look a good size, all the crap in them makes it look small and dark though.

"And the bathroom! Put the toilet seat down, but clean the toilet first!” one person wrote.

Some users suggested that leaving the house in such an untidy state might’ve been tactical, were the house being rented out by tenants who were not ready to move out.

“Slum landlord I think,” one wrote, “but they could have opened the curtains and cleaned the toilet!

“It's almost as if they made it look as bad as it possibly could - perhaps a strategy on the tenants' part?”

Others pointed out that despite the home’s condition, its price seems fitting for the area:

“That's just the standard London price for a house that size not too far from the centre,” one user commented.

The house’s price is more than double the average for London, which, according to RightMove is £623,525.
