Ever since Ryan Reynolds brought Deadpool to the big screen (excluding X-Men: Origins), the Merc with a Mouth has been hot property in Hollywood. That’s perhaps why the world was so shocked when Donald Glover’s animated adaptation of the comic book character was scrapped by FXX.

Speaking at the premiere of Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, the creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, expressed regret over the world never being able to see the Atlanta creator’s version of the character.

“I thought the whole thing was brilliant,” he told Variety. ”And I really can’t say anything more than that or I’ll get into all sorts of trouble from every side.”

However, despite ambivalence about talking about the cartoon Deadpool, Liefeld continued: “But I mean, I mourn the loss of that entire project. Donald is a genius, and I’ll always wonder how that would have worked out. But Marvel says: ‘Rob, good things are coming.’ And good things have always come, so I’m gonna believe them and hang on for dear life.”

Ten episodes of the show were ordered by FXX last May, with Glover working with his brother and fellow Atlanta writer, Stephen Glover, on the series.

When the show was cancelled earlier this year, the network cited “creative differences” while the “This Is America” posted a 15-page script from his Deadpool series onto Twitter with the caption: “For the record: I wasn’t too busy to work on Deadpool.”

Meanwhile, Atlanta has been renewed by FX for a third season following the critical success of Atlanta: Robbin’ Season.
