Jada Pinkett Smith confirms relationship with August Alsina

August Alsina has revealed why he decided to speak out about his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith.

Alsina met Pinkett Smith after being introduced by her son Jaden in 2015. When Alsina went public with the affair earlier this year, Pinkett Smith – who is married to Will Smith – initially denied it took place, before eventually admitting she had an “entanglement” with the singer.

Now, Alsina has explained that the rumours about his relationship with Pinkett Smith became too much to handle. “I never really cared about what people thought of me, but my personal life started to seep into my business life,” he told People. “There were certain falsities about me, and it affected my business relationships.”

He added: “I could understand why it would look like I’m reckless or disrespectful so it really started to affect my livelihood, and I’m never okay with that. I got three kids to look after. Kill me, hate me, stone me, but bury me an honest man. All I can do is tell the truth.”

Alsina said he is “always going to be in the driver’s seat of my life and control my narrative”. Speaking about his relationship with the Smiths since news of the affair broke, he added: “It’s just a part of life, and it’s a part of the journey. There’s a lot of love there.

“Sometimes truth is complicated and difficult. But [my relationship with them isn’t] broken at all.”

Last month, Alsina released a track about the affair, titled “Entanglements”, which includes the lyrics: “You left your man just to f*** with me and break his heart.”
