This, the latest variation on the "follow your dream" dance fantasy, draws an ever sharper line between tip-top street dance and bottom-of-the-class dialogue and acting.

Rick Malambri stars as a wannabe NY film-maker whose vast loft-cum-nightclub is going bankrupt, obliging him to train up his dance troupe for the $100,000 World Jam competition and so block a bid by his rival. $100,000?!

The dance-offs are so frenetic, you can't make out who would win, but at least when they're dancing they aren't talking. I enjoyed the robotic jive in which the participants make choppy movements in the style of automatons – it looks as though they've been wound up and set in motion. Unfortunately, their acting looks like that, too.
